Changing our portaloo's into mountain monsters!
WINNER of "Get PRINTED"
Our first winner of our 'Get PRINTED' was announced last week but we will announce it again.
THANK YOU to Lissy Henderson for her amazing print of 'Yellow Poppies'.
We asked Lissy a few things about herself to get an insight into what inspires her, what she loves about art and if she could have a super power
what would it be.
1. What’s integral to the work of an artist?
Eyes that see the world differently to others, that can appreciate the finer details that often go unseen and a creative soul that can put these things to life.
2. What memorable responses have you had to your work?
I’ve had people tell me that the presence of my artwork has changed their state of mind to be more positive. People have also purchased many pieces to remind them of a loved one who has passed, particularly little ones who pass way too soon. I am also a baby nurse so this connection is very beautiful to me. I am not sure why this happens regularly, but I am very honoured. I receive beautiful compliments that have given me the confidence to evolve, but these are my favourite.
3. What do you dislike about the art world?
Art is beautiful and an important part of life and I am very grateful for the people who work to preserve and promote it. I have very little understanding of the artworld other than my own little world that is “Yellow Poppies” and therefore no reason to dislike anything. I just paint what I love and I am very blessed to have people who want to share it.
4. What superpower would you have and why?
To give every single person the gift of empathy. I think there is a huge lack of empathy in our world right now.
5. Out of all the artist that have come and gone in time who would you say has had the most influence on you.
There is no way I could pick just one. I am influenced and inspired by my life and all that surrounds me. My children help me see little details I may not have otherwise seen. My love of birds and nature is obvious in my work along with my appreciation for pattern, texture and style of periods long ago. Probably every artist i’ve ever seen has played a part in my work becoming what it is.
