VIOLENT FEMMES ‘BACK IN THE VAN’ 2020 Rumour has it that upon enrolment into Australian university students receive a copy of the Violent Femmes eponymous debut. Ten tracks and 36 minutes long, the album features the universal themes of alienation, isolation, sexual frustration and angst - perfect early adult fodder - via songs such as Gone Daddy Gone, Kiss Off, Add it Up, Please Do Not Go and of course, Blister in the Sun. We don’t know if that rumour is true, of course, but it would go some way in explaining ‘The Femmes’ enduring popularity in our parts. And so we welcome Violent Femmes to Australian shores this coming March for their first national tour since 2017. This time they come with a brand new album - their 10th - Hotel Last Resort, which resides among the band’s finest work, simultaneously refining and redefining their one-of-a-kind take on American music, mingling front porch folk, post punk, spiritual jazz, country blues, avant garde minimalism and golden age rock ‘n’ roll into something still altogether their own. "A Violent Femmes album is always a treat; witty, lucid, self-deprecating, beat-up but ever-reliable…” - Classic Rock "They’re still fun and vital, and they still know how to make an exit.” - Rolling Stone “There's something rather comforting about finding them wholly unchanged after four decades and nearly 10 million album sales” - Mojo Magazine For their 2020 Australian tour the Femmes will present the classics from both Hotel Last Resort and the multi-platinum debut, mixed in with even more goodness from 1984’s Hallowed Ground, 1991’s Gold certified Why Do Birds Sing? and loads more. Following two sold out years in a row, the rambunctious BEST NIGHT EVER, returns to the Gold Coast this December with another stacked line up. Landing right in that sweet spot between Christmas and New Years, BEST NIGHT EVER is a perfect bridge to get through the summer break.
Finding a new home at Miami Marketta, the event has retained its DIY charm while moving into a more boutique and intimate space. Across one good afternoon and one 'best night', nine of Australia's hottest guitar wielding legends take the stage for what is sure to be a total sell out. With an extremely limited capacity in 2019, festival organisers are expecting all tickets to be snapped up. The festival's secret headliner is being kept under wraps until December, but we can reveal that these bunch of ratbags haven’t played the Gold Coast in nearly two years and consistently sell out Australian tours… However, leading the first announcement is Ruby Fields, with her first ever Gold Coast performance. Hitting BEST NIGHT EVER off the back of a huge year, the Cronulla local brings the summer vibes to Miami Marketta welding recent hits such as 'Trouble' and her smash triple j Hottest 100 entry 'Dinosaurs'. Next, who else is better to help get the crowd going, than The Chats - last seen rubbing shoulders with rock legends Alex Turner (Arctic Monkeys), Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters) and Josh Homme (Queens Of The Stone Age) at their latest sold out gig in LA. Proving to be one of Australia's finest new exports with tracks 'Pub Feed' and 'Identity Theft', The Chats hit the stage following a quick Christmas 'Smoko' break. ‘Cuffed and Collared’ and ready to rock, the Bad//Dreems lads will play tracks from their newly released third album Doomsday Ballet. The mischief continues on stage with Melbourne bands The Bennies, Clowns and Press Club mixing up the mosh with Gold Coast locals Being Jane Lane and Radolescent to complete the bill. This year with the new location, BEST NIGHT EVER will be 18+ with longtime music supporters and frothy buddies Young Henry's coming on board as official drink partners. With a huge headliner still to be announced on 9 December, fans of a good rock show are urged to get on their skateboards and sign up for pre-sale or risk missing out.
