SEOUL SISTERS

K-culture renaissance
As we stepped into the new millennium, the Korean wave (Hallyu) washed over the world. They call it a K-culture renaissance. Taking many multicultural influences from around the world, Korea has adapted a plethora of western trends and made it their own in the most intriguing and authentic way. The evolution of food and arts in Korea has brought us K-pop, Korean cinema and our favourite Korean Fried Chicken.

The real KFC
This tasty phenomenon actually began during the war in the 1950s. Occupying US troops introduced Fried Chicken in Seoul, and the locals made it their own with the addition of traditional Korean flavours such as yangnyeom sauce, which is a popular sweet and spicy Korean sauce made of gochujang, soy sauce, sugar, rice wine vinegar, garlic, and ginger. It is safe to say we are in awe of the colourful vitality that is modern Korean culture, and we are riding that wave in Australia with a little piece of it here at Miami Marketta.

We love Claudia!
For those of you who have not tried Seoul Sisters fried chicken from our beloved Claudia you seriously do not know what you are missing out on! Juicy tender chicken smothered in gloriously golden crispy batter, bathed in sweet, sticky sauce. With a few different flavours to choose from, you can get chicken pieces on their own, or try the Bibimbap, which is a bowl of steamed rice, sweet potato noodles and a mix of fresh and picked salad. It is, without a doubt, the perfect balance of sweet, salty, tangy, spicy.
Coming from Seoul 24 years ago for a holiday, Claudia came to Australia and she was sold, “I just fell in love with Australian culture. I love how relaxed and happy everyone is here, I couldn’t wait to come back.”
It didn’t take her long to return for good. In Seoul, she was a Maths teacher, but when she relocated to Australia, she decided to study Business and Hotel Management. Following her studies, she worked for 20 years in hotels where she met her husband, Scott. They have a daughter together, Isabelle, who sometimes works with her on the stall.

Do what makes you happy!

Cooking has always made Claudia happy and being able to prepare meals for other people is something that she feels is really special. Particularly sharing Korean style food with people that may have not tried it before. Growing up with her mum and her sister they loved to cook together and she always took a lot of inspiration from them, sharing secret recipes and learning different techniques together.

For the last three years Claudia has been serving up delicious Korean Street food never failing to win the hearts of all our punters with her beautiful smile and infectious energy.
Her motivation and prosperity is truly inspiring, “I always just keep going. My daughter keeps me strong and I am very lucky to have the support of her and my husband Scott.”

You can find Seoul Sisters here at the Miami Marketta Friday and Saturday nights from 5pm!
